Employee Motivation is a well read and discussed subject. A motivated workforce is highly critical for an organization’s success: higher the motivation, better the performance. Realizing this fact, organizations are designing newer ways to keep their employees motivated. Despite the efforts, not all employees perform their best. Why?…It is because of the difference in their ability to get motivated – Motivational Quotient.
What is Motivational Quotient (MQ)?
Motivational Quotient is an individual’s inner drive to achieve and grow.
I recently attended a work shop where I learned about Motivational Quotient. The way each one of us has different Intelligent Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ) , we have different Motivational Quotient (MQ). Our MQ depends on many things like-
Factor for motivation
Expectations and goals
Confidence, Personality and Attitude
Emotional and mental well being
While organizations provide equal opportunity to all, it is this MQ which differentiates a successful employee from the rest. So if you are an employee seeking success and growth, work on your improving your MQ.
Learn to take initiative
Don’t wait for things to happen, make them happen. Do things before you are told, and do it in the right manner. It gives confidence. By being initiative, you cultivate a self-starting work behavior. You become proactive in spotting tasks and opportunities before others see them.
Grow beyond “productivity trap”
If you feel compelled to perform more in less time, pause for a moment and think. Is working more in less time really adding value to your work? We often make the mistake of associating performance with doing more things in less time. The real performance lies in quality not quantity. It means doing things better. So, focus on adding quality to your work, performance will automatically improve.
Develop empowered thinking
Empowered thinking is to enable yourself to think, behave, act and work in rational manner. Most of the times, it’s our personal weakness and past failures that limit our progress and performance. Empower yourself to take charge of your work and decisions in an autonomous way. An empowered mind is always motivated to achieve more as it is free from limitations and past failures.
Cherish every accomplishment
Success is no big or small. Appreciate yourself for every little achievement your make. It encourages you to perform better and achieve bigger. Today’s “Rookie of the month” can be tomorrow’s “Employee of the year”.
Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly. – Stephen R. Covey
